The Ashigaru were the common foot soldiers of Fudel Japan. Connscripted or volunteered from the farms, fishing villages, textile mills, and villages, they represented the working class wariors of the "Sengoku Jidai" the Age of the Country at War.
This Ashigaru stands in front of a Torii gate and Shinto tempal complex on the front T-shirt image, and a faces rice fields and a village near the mountians on the back. His staw farmers hat is emblazend with the rising sun, the symbol of the Goddess Amaterasu. His shashimono ( flag on his back ) carries the three triangles of the Hojo clan from the Izu prefecture. He carries a gourd cantine, around his waiste, and bags of rice, and barley around his shoulder. He wears armour, made of iron plate, and carries a yari spear. The Kanji/Hiragana text under him, reads: "Chibi Yari Ashigaru" or "Mini Spear Light Infantry."
